At Ingestre Hall we take a slightly different approach from most schools with regard to music. The musicians’ week focuses around songwriting and composition and using creative writing to express feelings, stories or theme based information.
We try to demonstrate to our students how they can use songwriting and music to express emotions rather than just playing a piece from start to finish or simply playing something without a connection to the words, meaning or dynamic of the music. Our experience has proved that young people take much more ownership and pride in their work when they have created it for themselves.
Workshops can include creating and recognising rhythms, playing drums, lyric writing, singing, performing and an introduction to the Recording Studio.
Each week culminates in a live performance of the work created. The work is also recorded onto CD and usually sent back with the school or visiting group.
